Vice News is reporting that Amazon’s CEO and founder Jeff Bezos will deliver a keynote address on the rise of inequality in the U.S. at next Thursday’s annual meeting of the International Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.
“The next day we’ll have Jeff in the hall with other CEOs and executives of companies and organizations from around the world who will be discussing the importance of addressing this growing inequality issue, which is driving up the cost of living,” Amazon CEO and chairman Jeff Bezos said during a recent Q&A session at the IACAA’s annual conference in San Francisco.
“If we don’t change, this will be the first time in history that we see the level of inequality increase,” he added.
“This will be our moment.”
The IACA’s annual event is the world’s largest gathering of tech executives, including Amazon’s top executives, who are expected to deliver a speech in the near future on how they plan to address inequality in AI and artificial intelligence research and development.
In the meantime, there are already signs that the issue is raising alarm bells.
In June, the IAI released its report on AI inequality and its impact on business, and several of the worlds top AI companies, including Google, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft, said they are considering how to improve the effectiveness of their AI research.
At the same time, many in the AI community have begun to push for greater transparency and accountability in AI research, with the hashtag #AIgate trending on Twitter on Thursday.
